How to Organize Your Bookmarks - Useful Tips

In Bookmark Ninja, you can store your bookmarks either on the Dashboard or in the Catalog.

Dashboard:

  • The Dashboard consists of Tabs, which are collections of Categories organized in columns. Bookmarks are stored in Category boxes.
  • It is recommended to use the Dashboard for your most frequently used bookmarks and limit each Tab to a maximum of 50-150 bookmarks. This makes it easier to quickly find bookmarks visually.
  • It’s better to have fewer bookmarks per Tab and more Tabs overall. If you have many Tabs, you can use the Dynamic Tabs Bar feature.
  • The Dashboard can be considered an advanced Favorites collection.

Catalog:

  • The Catalog is for storing less frequently used bookmarks. It is a simple list of bookmarks accessible on the My Bookmarks page, similar to placing items in a large box and searching for them later when you need something.
  • It is recommended to use tags so you can find bookmarks more easily. When you run a search, both the titles of the bookmarks and the tags are searched. Additionally, you can use the Tag Quickfinder to filter bookmarks by their tags.

Organizing Tips:

  • When organizing your bookmarks, you can move them from the Dashboard to the Catalog and automatically add the Tab and Category names as tags using the Auto Tagging feature.
  • Bookmarks can also be moved from the Catalog to the Dashboard on the My Bookmarks page.

Customer feedback survey

Last week we sent out a survey to the Bookmark Ninja customers. There were questions about the usage habits and also about what new features/improvements the customers would like to see in Bookmark Ninja.

We would like to thank those ones who submitted the survey!

All the feedback we received will definitely help us to plan the upcoming developments more efficiently.

Since we received so much feedback, it will take one or two weeks to review and evaluate them. I also saw some questions in the feedback, I'm going to answer them if email address was submitted.

The "Add to Ninja" pop-up is blocked in Firefox's latest update

The latest Firefox update (version 66) has come with some "surprise" again.

If you click on the "Add to Ninja" add-on button you will get the "Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window" message even if you already have the Bookmark Ninja website in the exception list of the pop-up blocker. This worked fine in version 65 but not in version 66.

I have contacted the Firefox support forum, I will post if I have any updates on this.

There are 2 workarounds to fix the issue:

Turn off the pop-up blocker completely in Firefox (under Options/Privacy & Security/Permissions)

or

Use the "Add to Ninja" bookmarklet instead of the Firefox add-on (you can install it from this page with a simple drag and drop)

Please contact me at support@bookmarkninja.com if you have any questions.

Fixing the "Ninja extensions can't be installed in Firefox" issue

Some users complained about that they couldn't install the Bookmark Ninja extensions in Firefox.

It seems that the latest Firefox update (v65) broke something. Please follow the below steps to fix the problem:
  • Uninstall Firefox (Add or Remove Programs in Windows 10)
  • Reinstall Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org
  • Now you will be able to add the Ninja extensions

Please contact me at support@bookmarkninja.com if you have any questions.

Users on Mac please update the "Add to Ninja" bookmarklet and browser extension

On Mac OS the Add Bookmark dialog might be displayed with incorrect height, hiding the "Not bookmarked yet" message under the buttons (when "Detect already bookmarked pages" is turned on).

This issue has been caused by the latest updates of Chrome and Safari on Mac OS. If you have this problem please update the "Add to Ninja" bookmarklet and/or Chrome extension, that will re-adjust the height of the dialog.

To update the "Add to Ninja" bookmarklet button:
  1. Remove the current "Add to Ninja" bookmarklet from the Safari/Chrome bookmark bar (right mouse click on the bookmarklet button then select Delete)
  2. Install the new bookmarklet (drag and drop) from this page: https://www.bookmarkninja.com/installbrowserbuttons

To update the "Add to Ninja' Chrome extension:
  1. Right mouse click on the extension and select "Manage Extensions"
  2. Turn on "Developer mode" (in the top right corner)
  3. Click on Update
